OrderGuard: Min & Max Limits — Help & FAQ

Need help? Email [OWNER: support email]. We reply within one business day.

Getting started

  1. Turn on the app embed. In OrderGuard → Home, click Open theme editor. The "Order limits" embed opens switched on; click Save. This shows limits on product pages and warns customers in the cart. Checkout is protected even without it.
  2. Create a rule. OrderGuard → Rules → Create rule. Choose a type, pick products, variants or collections, set a minimum, maximum and/or multiple, and save.
  3. Test it. Add the product to your cart and go to checkout: if the cart breaks a rule, checkout shows your message and can't be completed until the cart is fixed.

Rule types

Type What it limits
Product quantity Units of each chosen product (all its variants together)
Variant quantity Units of each chosen variant
Collection quantity Each product in the collections, or all items from them combined
Cart quantity Total number of items in the cart
Order value Cart subtotal, set in your store currency

Every rule has an on/off switch, a custom error message with placeholders ({min} {max} {multiple} {product} {collection} {quantity}), translations for your store's languages, and optional customer tags.

FAQ

Is it really free? Yes. Unlimited rules and products, on every Shopify plan.

Where are limits enforced? At checkout, by Shopify itself, so they also apply to Shop Pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay and other express checkouts. The storefront note and cart warning are there to help customers before they reach checkout.

Can customers add fewer items than the minimum to the cart? Yes, so they can add items one at a time. Minimums and multiples are enforced at checkout; maximums are also enforced when adding to the cart.

Two rules match the same product. Which one applies? The most specific: variant rule → product rule → collection rule. If two rules are equally specific, the one higher in your Rules list wins (use the arrows to reorder). Cart quantity and order value rules always apply in addition.

How do I let wholesale customers skip a limit? Add their customer tag (e.g. wholesale) to the rule's "Skip customers tagged" field. To create a rule only for some customers (e.g. a B2B minimum), use "Only apply to customers tagged".

How do order value limits work with multiple currencies? Set the limit in your store currency. Customers paying in another currency see the converted amount.

Do limits apply to draft orders or orders created in the admin? Limits are checked in Shopify checkout. Orders that staff create and complete in the Shopify admin don't go through checkout, so staff can still make exceptions. If you send a draft-order invoice, the customer pays through checkout, where your limits may apply.

The note doesn't appear on my product page. Check the app embed is on (Online Store → Themes → Customize → App embeds → Order limits). If your theme uses an unusual quantity box, open the embed settings → Advanced and enter its CSS selector, or contact us and we'll help.

My product page has no quantity box. That's a theme setting. In the theme editor open a product page, select the product information section, click Add block → Quantity selector, and save. Without it, customers add one item at a time; the cart warning and checkout still enforce your limits.

Are there any limits? Active collection rules can use up to 10 different collections in total, and rules can use up to 100 different customer tags. You can create hundreds of product, variant, cart and order value rules; the app tells you if you reach Shopify's size limit.

What happens if something goes wrong? OrderGuard is fail-safe: if its rules can't be read, checkout is never blocked.

How do I pause all limits? Settings → turn off "Enforce order limits". Your rules are kept.

Uninstalling

Uninstall from Settings → Apps in your Shopify admin. All limits stop immediately and your data is deleted as described in our privacy policy.
